I didn't know it at the time, but the production methodology that I created has many similarities with the ISO 13407 standard, which provides guidance on how to run user-centred design projects. But then again, any vaguely sensible way of designing anything that is a fusion of ideas, digital technology and people will resemble what follows: a good instance of a (meta? Interesting!) design pattern methinks.
I always maintained that this production methodology was stupidly, ludicrously simple: its only got five (5) components, after all. But a lot of people seemed to get confused about it: my poor explanations I guess.
- Discovery - requirements capture, by another name.
- Origination - generating solutions; (specifically) thinking creatively
- Definiton - writing stuff down
- Implementation - generating working code and beautiful assets
- Delivery - putting it out there; celebrating
This simple way of doing things is illustrated in the two diagrams that follow (click to see larger versions).
