Origination is the name for the "ideas" phase of a production methodology, where the focus is upon creative activity intended to create novelty.
In practise - in line with user-centred design techniques and agile methodological practise - Origination is tightly coupled with Definition, and they two phases do not follow each other in the rigidly sequential manner of a waterfall methodology.
