During a short but intensely productive spell at Fortune Cookie during the summer of 2008 I was fortunate enough to work within the BBC on a project to design the web portal for an internal but high-profile internal BBC project called the digital media initiative (or DMI).
The DMI was the name the BBC gave to their aspiration to convert their entire production process over to one based wholly upon digital technology.
This portal project was only a tiny component of this much bigger effort - essentially a way for BBC staff to access via a web interface the (digitised assets from) the BBC's miles upon miles of archive.
